I’ve Been Smelling Rats For Some Time Now

September 30th, 2008 § 0 comments § permalink

OK.  I admit it.  I don’t get it.  I know a lot about music.  I mull upon music constantly.

I do not mull upon economics nearly so often – though I do mull a bit here and there.

The thing that bothers me is that although I am not an economist and know very little about high finance, I’ve been  smelling –   rats –  for –  some –  time now.

So why are we being told we must make a $700 Billion decision in a hurry, without hardly even beginning to debate our options, let alone being given a good faith opportunity to understand what exactly is being proposed?

I suppose that to seriously debate America’s obvious financial psychosis at any point before the actual CRISIS was upon us might have led to a CRISIS…?

It being VP week in politics land, let us pause to consider Sarah Palin.

As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go?  It’s Alaska.” – Sarah Palin

Have you seen the Sarah Palin / Katie Couric interview?  Here’s the “Russia” question and answer…

How about the Tina Fey Saturday Night Live spoof of that same Couric interview?

Thursday night 9 Eastern Time Sarah Palin wil debate Joe Biden.  Anything short of a crash and burn will exceed expectations.

Senator Biden, you must be merciful.  Please.

What do you think of the plan, John?

I am so invested in favor of Obama and Change that I cannot begin to pretend to objectivity.  However, I must say I found myself really disliking McCain’s condescending sarcastic demeanor.

What an asshole.

UPDATE – an interesting link from Talking Points Memo.

McCain on Letterman? Nope.

Guy comes on the bus – “Driver! – Man, let me ride free today – I left my pass at home and I need to get to work.”  So I tell him he needs to pay a fare if he wants to ride the bus.  That’s when he cusses under (almost under) his breath, reaches into his trousers pocket, pulls out a roll of banknotes with zeros in the corners, and peels off a single.

And that’s what this “bail-out” feels like to me.  I think the people asking for the handout still have funds they’d rather we didn’t know about.

Synchronicity in C Minor

I had a great experience on Thursday night. As many of you know, I have for the last four years been involved in hosting music sessions – jams, improvisations, compositional collaborations, whatever we call them – on most Thursday nights. I’ve been slacking off a bit lately, as I have a lot on my plate and just needed to back off a bit. » Read the rest of this entry «
